What’s the name of the BBC Traces theme song and who sings it?
The theme tune that you hear playing during the opening credits to BBC One’s 2021 crime drama Traces is a cover of the song ‘Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’.
The atmospheric version featured in Traces, which was released as a single in 2019, is performed by the American singer-songwriter Valerie Broussard and is available to stream or download from Amazon UK.
Originally Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood was recorded back in 1964 by the American R&B, blues, and jazz singer and musician Nina Simone.
Other cover versions of this song were recorded in 1965 by English rock music band The Animals and in 1986 by singer Elvis Costello.
Airing in January 2021 on BBC1 and BBC iPlayer, Traces is a crime thriller based on an original idea by the Scottish crime writer Val McDermid, written by Amelia Bullmore.
The series is set in the world of forensic science in Dundee, Scotland, and stars actress Molly Windsor as the character Emma Hedges, who’s moving to Dundee to begin a new job as a lab technician. The night before she sets off, a fatal fire breaks out at a nightclub in Dundee, with the club manager’s niece and another member of staff unaccounted for.
