What’s the name of the song playing during the new Sky Sports Premier League intro and who sings it?
The music playing during the new opening sequence of the Premier League coverage on Sky Sports is a tune called ‘Stop This Flame’, which can be previewed or downloaded from Amazon UK.
Featuring the lyrics “You’ll never stop this flame, I will never let you go”, Sky’s new footie theme tune was recorded and co-written by the California-born British singer-songwriter, Celeste.
The single is taken from Celeste’s self-titled debut album that was released in September 2020, perfectly timed for the start of the new season and this excellent exposure.
Sky Sports ‘Pride of the Premier League’ intro video sequence stars such players as Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, and also Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyangm, so it’s a good job he did sign a new contract.
We’ll have to wait and see if they stick with Harry Kane as Spurs representative or edit in new footage of Gareth Bale later on.
Given that fans still aren’t allowed into stadiums, it was hoped by many that the Premier League TV coverage would continue as it was after project restart last season, where every game was broadcast live on one channel or another, be it on free or paid TV.
However, although BBC One has so far shown one live game, we’re currently in a situation where some matches are not broadcast live and in full here in the UK, meaning fans can’t watch their team in the stadium or at home.
Somewhat unfairly, this issue will likely affect fans of the league’s ‘smaller’ clubs more, fans who always have to put up with less TV coverage of their team’s fixtures and therefore get less value out of Sky Sports and BT Sport subscriptions.
How any local or national lockdown restrictions and social distancing rules come into effect over the coming months will possibly decide whether or not many more games will be shown free to air on the BBC or Sky Pick during the 2020 to 2021 season.
Let’s hope things will get back to something like normal soon and fans will be allowed back into stadiums again without any risk of spreading coronavirus to each other or the wider population.
