Music and artist info for the feline food brands ‘What Cats Want’ TV and internet advert.
Now surely I’m not the only person who thinks the sight of a man creepily approaching a cat, with his trousers around his ankles is at least slightly weird, right?
I’m guessing the premise of this ad is the cat’s using its charms to lead the guy to their Sheba for a tasty meal. Unfortunately it appears more to me like the guy’s stalking the cat and it’s trying to evade his advances.
It turns out in the end though that this half-naked bloke just derives an unusual pleasure from feeding hungry felines, evidently a greater pleasure than getting frisky with human females.
Anyway, on to my favourite aspect of the commercial – the soundtrack. The song featured here is the mid-eighties hit ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling’ by American soft rock band REO Speedwagon.
Originally released in 1985, this track topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks and reached number 16 on the UK Singles Chart.
REO Speedwagon are probably jointly best known for Can’t Fight This Feeling and their earlier 1980 power ballad ‘Keep On Loving You’ – two songs which remind me they don’t make ’em like they used to.
The above ‘What Cats Want’ video was posted to the official SHEBA Brand YouTube channel on the 24th of June, 2016 and is now airing on UK TV.
