The new Royal Bank of Scotland TV advert tells us the story of Sophie: A lady who’s lost her credit card.
If you’re wondering why she appears so relaxed about the situation, sat happily chilled-out in a coffee shop, that’s because Sophie has the ability to use her phone to lock and unlock her card with the Royal Bank app. So when she eventually finds that RBS card inside her phone case, Sophie allows herself an indulgent daydream where she’s dancing and singing on the shop counter.
This “Mocha choca lata ya ya” Royal Bank of Scotland advert song the actress is singing and dancing to is the 2001 Moulin Rouge! version of ‘Lady Marmalade’. This R&B/hip-hop/pop reworded cover was recorded by singers Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mýa and Pink, and was co-written/co-produced by Missy Elliott.
The single became a number 1 hit on the official UK charts and the US Billboard Hot 100. Lady Marmalade was originally released in 1974 by the all-female American singing group Labelle. Some of you may also remember a cover of Lady Marmalade being recorded in the late ’90s by four-piece pop girl group All Saints, whose version also topped the UK singles chart.
