John Lewis Christmas – Singer and song details for this year’s John Lewis festive TV ad, starring Buster the trampolining dog. #BusterTheBoxer
You know John Lewis has mastered the art of hype and promotion when their festive TV advert gets its own preview ads, leaving millions of people asking when the full film will be released, what the theme will be and who’ll be performing the soundtrack. However, the full 2016 John Lewis Christmas advert is now here and is available to watch above. The ad features a newly recorded cover of American artist Randy Crawford’s hit ‘One Day I’ll Fly Away’.
Originally released as a single back in 1980, the song has since been covered by the likes of actress Nicole Kidman for the 2001 movie Moulin Rouge! and more recently in 2013 by Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh. Performing this new version used in the John Lewis TV ad are the London-based three-piece electronica/synth pop band Vaults, who’s line-up consists of Barney Freeman, Ben Vella and Blythe Pepino.
Jazz and R&B singer Randy Crawford had her original song reach number 2 on the UK singles chart, so let’s see if Vaults can go one better this time around.
Given the massive amounts of publicity it’s currently receiving, the single should surely have a great chance of topping the charts in the coming weeks.
The above full-length version of the commercial was uploaded to the official John Lewis YouTube channel late on Wednesday the 9th of November, 2016, shortly before the Vaults version of One Day I’ll Fly Away was released for download.
