What do big brands look for these days when choosing an ambassador to represent their company? Someone who’s worked incredibly hard and sacrificed to reach the top of their profession? Someone who’s overcome disadvantages and adversity in life to go on and inspire others?
Well with this being the summer of the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, there’s certainly no shortage of respected role models for brands to choose from. However, from a marketing point of view these days, it appears celeb status and social media reach is what really counts. Providing the person in question isn’t likely to say or do anything controversial that could reflect badly on the company, it’s all about getting the product seen and talked about.
With 8.2 million followers on Instagram, Brooklyn Beckham has been chosen by Chinese technology manufacturer Huawei to promote their new Honor 8 smartphone.
This advert shows the 17-year-old speaking about how people thought he was going to go in the same direction as his footballer day David Beckham, but instead ending up taking his own path. Brooklyn goes on to talk about his interest in photography, leading nicely to demonstrating how the Honor 8 and its camera can be used to quickly snap photos anywhere.
Honor Global’s advert, which was posted to their official YouTube channel on the 16th of August, 2016, ends with Brooklyn saying “I’m a really hard worker. I just want to continue with, you know living my life. Skating, photography, school, friends, family and just having fun.”
The song you hear playing during the video is called ‘Sow’ – a track released in March of this year by the American record producer Baauer.
